Shuddha Guggulu (Purified Guggul)

Shuddha Guggulu is an ayurvedic preparation commonly used for the management of obesity and high cholesterol levels. It is also used in the treatment of joint diseases. It is effective in the management of atherosclerosis and hypertension. It can be used to enhance the functions of the heart.


  • Raw guggul resin – Commiphora Wightii – Mukul Myrrh – 250 grams
  • Decoction of Three myrobalans or Triphala – 250 grams
  • Giloy – Tinospora Cordifolia – 125 grams

The three myrobalans used in the preparation of Shuddha Guggulu include:

  • Harar – Chebulic Myrobalan – Terminalia Chebula
  • Behara – Beleric Myrobalan – Terminalia Bellerica
  • Amla –Emblic Myrobalan – Phyllanthus Emblica


Shuddha Guggulu acts as an anti-obesity agent. It works by stimulating the burning of fats in the body. It also possesses hypolipidemic properties, which help to reduce the serum cholesterol levels. The anti-inflammatory action of this medication helps to control inflammation, redness, swelling, and tenderness in different parts of the body. Overdose Side Effects

The use of Shuddha Guggul in a dosage higher than 6 grams per day can cause a few side effects such as a headache, nausea, gastric disturbances, and loose motions.
