Patrangasava

Patrangasava is a popular Ayurvedic medicine used for the management of women’s health problems such as leucorrhea, and heavy menstrual bleeding. It can also be used to treat the general health conditions like a fever. It contains about 5 to 10% of self-generated natural alcohol. This self-generated alcohol along with the water present in the medication acts as a media to deliver the water and alcohol soluble herbal components to the body.

The health conditions that can be treated using this medicine are as follows:

Polymenorrhea

Patrangasava can be used to manage menstrual complaints like heavy bleeding and short menstrual cycles. However, it should not be used in the management of irregular menstrual cycles. It is helpful in treating polymenorrhea, a condition characterized by too frequent menstrual periods and shorter menstrual cycles. It can also be used to treat menorrhagia, in which women experience heavy menstrual bleeding. This medicine regularizes the menses and reduces the frequency of menstrual cycles. It can also reduce pain in the lower abdomen occurring during menses.

Polycystic ovarian disease

Patrangasava can be used in the treatment of polycystic ovarian disease especially in the cases where women develop heavy bleeding with shorter menstrual cycles. This condition occurs due to the imbalance of hormones and is accompanied by symptoms like excessive weight gain, Hirsutism (growth of hair on the lips), and acne.

Patrangasava helps to control these symptoms and regularizes the menses by correcting the production and release of hormones.

Pelvic inflammatory diseases

Patrangasava also helps in the management of pelvic inflammatory diseases. The herbs used in the preparation of this medication produce an anti-inflammatory effect, which helps in preventing damage to the ovaries, uterus, and other organs of the reproductive system thereby relieving the symptoms of pelvic inflammatory diseases.

Leucorrhea

Patrangasava works effectively in the treatment of leucorrhea. Women should use this medicine on a regular basis and follow healthy hygienic practices to achieve long-term relief from leucorrhea.

Gastrointestinal disturbances

Patrangasava can be used to treat gastrointestinal disturbances like anorexia, malabsorption syndrome, and irritable bowel syndrome. It improves the digestion, and absorption of food thus reducing the risk of nutritional deficiencies caused by malabsorption syndrome. It prevents the symptoms of indigestion such as constipation, flatulence, and loss of appetite. It enhances the digestion power and prevents bloating and heaviness in the abdomen.

It acts as an antilipemic agent and enhances the liver functions thus regulating the level of cholesterol and triglycerides. It produces a hepatoprotective action, which is useful in the treatment of ascites and hepatitis.

Recommended dosage of Patrangasava

Patients are advised to use Patrangasava in a dose of 5 ml, one or two times a day. The dose can be increased if the symptoms are severe or the result with the lower dose is not satisfactory. The maximum recommended a dose of this medicine is 10 ml, to be taken once or twice a day. They should take the doses after food only as this medicine may cause a mild irritation and pain in the stomach. If the taste of the medicine is too unpleasant, it can be mixed with an equal quantity of water.

Side effects of Patrangasava

Patrangasava is not known to cause serious side effects. It is a pure, natural formula containing herbal ingredients. It does not contain any chemical constituents. Hence, it is safe to use. In some cases, women may develop mild gastric complaints and loose motions. These side effects may occur if the medicine is administered in a very high dose. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should refrain from using this medicine unless advised by a physician.

Patrangasava is usually prescribed for treating menstrual irregularities with severe bleeding. It is helpful in treating short menstrual cycles and heavy menstrual bleeding. However, if this medicine is taken by the women having irregular cycles, it may cause prolonged menstrual cycles and delayed periods.
