Kanchanar Guggulu (Kanchnar Guggul)

Kanchanar Guggulu, also known as Kanchnar Guggul and Kachnaar Guggul, is an Ayurvedic medicine used for the treatment of hypothyroidism, and obesity. It is also used for the management of abnormal growths such as cancer, goiter, and cysts. It can also be used to treat skin problems such as wounds, and boils.

Kanchanar Guggulu possesses anti-tumor and anti-mutagenic properties. It acts as a thyroid stimulant and restores the functions of this gland. It also acts as an analgesic and a muscle relaxant. The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of this medication are effective in preventing cancer.


The primary ingredients of Kanchanar Guggulu are Guggulu and Kanchanar. To prepare this medicine, Kachanar bark is used to make a decoction. Later, Guggulu is mixed in the decoction along with the other ingredients. Tablets of Kanchanar Guggulu are prepared using this mixture.

The recommended dosage of Kanchanar Guggulu is 125 mg to 2 grams per day. The maximum daily dosage of this medication should not exceed 4 grams.

Kanchanar Guggulu is available in a tablet form. Adult patients can take two tablets of Kanchanar Guggulu, two or three times a day. Children below 5 years of age should be treated with a dose of half or 1 tablet once or twice a day.

The recommended dose for children between 5 and 12 years of age is 1 tablet, 2 to 3 times a day, and for children between 12 and 18 years is 1 or 2 tablets, 2 to 3 times a day. The doses should be taken after food. Patients can use this medication for 1 to 4 months depending on the condition to be treated.


Kanchanar Guggulu is used for the treatment of hypothyroidism and the weight gain caused due to it. It can also be used to treat Polycystic Ovarian Disease. Patients can also use Kanchanar Guggulu for treating boils and wounds.


Kanchanar Guggulu can be used to treat Hypothyroidism. It can activate the functions of the thyroid gland and regulate the secretion of hormones.

It can prevent weight gain, and puffiness of the face caused due to Hypothyroidism. It can also reduce belly fat, hoarseness, and constipation caused due to hypothyroidism. It also helps to reduce joint pains, muscle weakness, stiffness and pain associated with this disease. (1)

Polycystic ovarian syndrome

Polycystic ovarian syndrome can be managed effectively using Kanchanar Guggulu. It can correct the abnormalities caused due to the hormonal imbalances. This condition occurs due to the higher production of some hormones due to which the women also develop other symptoms like weight gain, excessive growth of hair, and acne.

Kanchanar Guggulu helps to control these symptoms and regularizes the menses by producing a regulatory action on the endocrine system. It also acts as an anti-inflammatory agent and prevents damage to the ovaries, which can otherwise lead to an overproduction of testosterone and cause an aggravation of the symptoms of the polycystic ovarian disease. It can also prevent the complications of Polycystic Ovarian Disease such as infertility. A regular use of this medicine can improve the chances of conception.


Kanchanar Guggulu is also effective in the treatment and prevention of cancer. It can prevent the spread and growth of cancer. It can also reduce the risk of cancer by acting as a natural anti-mutagenic agent. It prevents cancerous changes in the healthy tissues by preventing damage to the DNA. It is useful for treating cancers of the ovaries, uterus, colon, and stomach. It is also used to treat abnormal growths such as uterine fibroids. (3)


Kanchanar Guggulu may cause a few side effects such as stomach upsets, and mild gastric irritation. An allergic reaction to the ingredients in this medicine may cause symptoms like itching and skin rashes.

Kanchanar Guggulu can increase the risk of miscarriage. Hence, pregnant women should avoid using this medication.

Overdose Side Effects

An overdose of Kanchanar Guggulu may cause hiccups.
