Draksharishta is an Ayurvedic medicine that helps to treat several respiratory and digestive disorders. Draksharishta can be used in the treatment and prevention of upper respiratory tract infections such as common cold, and sinusitis. It provides relief from nose block, persistent sneezing, headache, running nose, and fever that may occur due to these infections. It may also be used to treat the infections in the lower respiratory tract including bronchitis, tuberculosis, and pneumonia. It reduces cough, chest pain, breathlessness, and blood in sputum caused due to these infections. It is a powerful antibiotic, and antiviral agent, which helps to destroy the organisms responsible for the infections.
Draksharishta can also be used to treat chest injuries. It allows for a faster healing of the affected part and restores the functions of the lungs. It has been found to be beneficial for the patients suffering from COPD. It is a chronic lung disorder that causes considerable damage to the pulmonary tissues due to which the lung capacity is significantly reduced. This disorder progresses slowly over several years and affects the quality of patient’s life by causing breathing difficulties. Draksharishta helps in controlling the progress of these diseases by improving the strength and capacity of the lungs. It makes breathing easier and prevents further damage to the lungs.

It contains powerful antioxidants mainly from the vitamin C present in the dry grapes, which strengthen the immune system and prevent the allergic disorders like dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, and asthma. It also modulates the response of the immune system thus minimizing the flare-ups in the skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema.
Recommended dose of Draksharishta
Patients suffering from the above diseases should use this medicine in a dose of 12 ml, one or two times a day. The dose can be increased if the symptoms are severe. The maximum recommended dose of this medicine is 24 ml, once or twice a day. This medicine can be taken with or without food. However, patients who suffer from gastritis or stomach upsets should take it after food only. If needed, it can be mixed with an equal quantity of water if they find the taste unbearable. The medicine should be used for at least 2 weeks to achieve noticeable results. Patients can use it safely for duration of 4 months.
Side effects of Draksharishta
Draksharishta is prepared from natural herbal ingredients only. These herbs are safe to consume even for a prolonged duration. Since most of the conditions that can be treated using Draksharishta are chronic in nature, the treatment too needs to be taken for a longer duration. The natural and chemical-free content of this medicine allows the patients to use it for 2 weeks to 4 months without worrying about the side effects. In some cases, patients may develop mild gastric irritation. However, this symptom occurs only when the medicine is taken in a very high dose.
Since the effect of this medication on the foetus is not fully known when pregnant women use it, they should seek an advice of a physician before taking this medicine. Lactating mothers can use it in lower doses after consulting a doctor. This medicine is safe for the children above 5 years of age, when used in lower doses.
