Balarishta, also called Balarishtam, is a powerful Ayurvedic medication that helps in the management of a range of disorders affecting the nervous system. Ingredients of Balarishtam
Balarishta is a liquid medicine that contains 5 to 10% of self-generated alcohol, which along with the water present in it, acts as a media to obtain the alcohol and water-soluble active components in the herbs. The main herbs used in this medicine, Bala and Ashwagandha, are powdered and then, added to water. This mixture is boiled and filtered to make a Kashayam. Later, jaggery is added to this Kashayam and it is filtered to remove the impurities. The remaining ingredients are then added and stored in an airtight container for one month to allow it to ferment. Then, the liquid is filtered to obtain the extract and stored at a cool and dry place. The herbs present in Balarishta are given below:

- Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera): 4.8 kg

- Rasna (Pluchea lanceolata): 48 grams
- Eranda (Ricinus communis): 96 grams
- Cardamom: 48 grams
- Prasarini (Paederia foetida): 48 grams

Recommended Dose of Balarishta
Adult patients should take Balarishta in a dose of 20 ml diluted in 50 ml of warm water, twice or thrice a day. The dose can be increased to 24 ml diluted in the same manner and taken two to three times a day, in case the symptoms are severe. The doses should be taken after food to avoid gastric irritation. Patients should use this medicine for 2 weeks to 4 months depending on the condition to be treated.
